This year's host for the Academy Awards will be Neil Patrick Harris. The "How I Met Your Mother" actor has hosted the Emmys and Tonys, but this will be his first try at the Oscar's.

Let's take a look at the top five Oscar Hosts leading up to Sunday's Academy Awards.

5. Jon Stewart in 2006

Stewart made jokes and kept the crowd laughing all night.

Before the show started, there was a prerecorded skit, which showed former hosts declining to be this year's host. Billy Crystal and Chris Rock said no because they were inside a tent together, Steve Martin said no because he wanted to spend more time with his kids, and David Letterman said he was not able to host the show because he too wanted to spend more time with Steve Martin's kids.

When it was time for Stewart to go out, he was professional yet funny. He addressed the issue of movie piracy by telling thieves that they were stealing from the wonderful people in the audience.

4. Whoopi Goldberg in 1996

Goldberg had a tough task ahead of her; she had to follow David Letterman's awful performance the year before. Additionally, protests led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson regarding African Americans not being picked to win awards could have meant a difficult night for Whoopi.

Goldberg did amazingly though. She focused on the nominees and made a few jokes, too. Goldberg ranks No. 2 on Moviefone's best Oscar hosts list.

3. Ellen DeGeneres in 2014

Ellen will always be remembered for taking the selfie that was seen all over the world. It broke Twitter records, and her performance as a host was highly rated by viewers.

That was just one of the out-of-the-ordinary things she did. Ellen went into the crowd and ordered pizza for attendees sitting close to the stage.

Some critics say that Ellen made some mean jokes, but 61 percent of viewers polled by CNN said she was "fantastic as always."

2. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin in 2010

Martin and Baldwin paired together well for the show and made the audience laugh.

For example, they pointed out that Zac Efron and Taylor Lautner were in the crowd and said, "Take a good look at us, guys. This is you in five years."

1. Billy Crystal in 1992

Crystal chose to be introduced in a unique way for the Oscars. Instead of walking out and waving, Crystal was wheeled out on a handtruck wearing a Hannibal Lecter mask. Crystal has hosted the Oscars nine times in total. The last one was in 2012.
