Derrick Rose suffered another huge setback in his career after the Chicago Bulls superstar sustained a torn meniscus in his right knee and is set to undergo surgery, the team announced on Tuesday.

According to ESPN, Rose told the team on Tuesday morning that he is experiencing pain in his right knee. The medical staff examined the knee and Rose underwent MRI, which confirmed the injury.

Rose, who has been showing glimpses of his old form over the past several games, could miss the rest of the season again. The Bulls announced that a timetable will be set after the surgery.

Analysts, however, believe the superstar point guard will not return to play again this season after the team decided to fix the meniscus tear; the Bulls considered cutting the damage part of the meniscus, but eventually decided to fix it, which will require Rose to undergo extensive rehabilitation again.

The Bulls did not give specifics on when Rose reinjured his right knee, which came just as when most fans and analysts were raving about the recent performances by the former Memphis standout.

In 16 games last month, Rose averaged 20.3 points to go along with 4.9 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. In their win against the Cleveland Cavaliers before the 2015 All-Star break, he tallied 30 points to go along with seven assists and four rebounds for the Bulls.

The latest setback was similar to the injury Rose suffered in November 2013 during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The 26-year-old point guard also underwent surgery to repair the tear, which forced Rose to miss the remainder of the 2013-14 NBA season.

Before sustaining a torn meniscus in his right knee in 2013, the former NBA Most Valuable Player also suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during Game of the 2012 first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers. After undergoing surgery to repair the torn ACL, Rose decided to sit out the entire 2012-13 NBA season.

The Bulls are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference standings with their 36-21 record. They are currently half-a-game-ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who hold a 36-22 record.
