Mexican designers and fashionsitas alike want to break runway records by holding the prestigious title of the Guinness World record for the largest fashion show.

In the capital's legendary Chapultepec Park, more than 3,000 amateur models joined forces with budding local designers keen to draw global attention to their work with a world record, according to Reuters.

"The first objective is to promote Mexican creativity," Event Organizer Marie Rose Victoria told Reuters. "What we want is for the world to turn their eyes to Mexico and see all that can be done here."

According to the National Chamber of the Apparel Industry in Mexico, "some 20,000 businesses that make up the textile and fashion industry have had a rough time in recent years, due to cheaper goods being imported."

Reuters spoke to participant Fabiola Hernandez, who says she hopes diversity on the collections on runway shows the world that there is a lot of local talent to tap into.

"The show shows reflects the essence people, there are some punk, something a little more preppy, but it's all mixed in with the personality of the people," Hernandez added.

"Mexico designer says they beat out the Philippines for the Guinness World record, which featured over 2,000 models, but Reuters pointed out that "Guinness has yet to certify the final count."
