The 2013 console war has pitted Sony's PlayStation 4 against Microsoft's Xbox One with every gamer picking their favorite side. In the United Kingdom, the early victor appears to be the PS4.

Sony launched the PS4 in the United Kingdom on Nov. 29. During its first 48 hours on the Kingdom's shelves, the PS4 sold over 250,000 units, MCVUK reports. As a result, the PS4 is now considered the fastest selling video game console in United Kingdom history, bringing in a rough estimate of £87 million.

The record was surprisingly not held by the Xbox One, which launched in the United Kingdom on Nov. 22. In fact, the Xbox One only sold 150,000 units in the United Kingdom during its first week. According to GFK Chart-Track, Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) owned the title by selling 180,000 units during its first week of sales eight years ago.

These numbers lend support to the belief that although the PS4 and Xbox One might be head-to-head in the United States, the rest of the world is leaning toward the PS4. The PS4 sold over one million consoles within the first 24 hours of its debut in the United States and Canada on Nov. 15. The Xbox One matched those numbers with its launch on Nov. 22, but this launch was in 13 different territories, not just North America.

Meanwhile, the Wii U is nowhere close to being a contender in the United Kingdom's side of the console war. Both the PS4 and the Xbox One have already outsold the Wii U's lifetime sales.
