Maria Bello has publicly came out of the closet recently, saying "I had become involved with a woman who was my best friend". The confession was prompted by her 12-year old son's curiosity, who asked her "if there was something she wasn't telling him?" She then decided to reveal her sexuality through a piece published in The New York Times called "Coming Out as a Modern Family".

In the revelation she says her son was right; "I was with someone romantically and I hadn't told him, I had become involved with a person who is like a godmother to my son", wrote the "Coyote Ugly" actress. She says that she and Clare "had an immediate connection but didn't think of it as romantic or sexual, she was one of the most beautiful, charming, brilliant and funny people I had ever met, but it didn't occur to me, until that soul-searching moment in my garden, that we could perhaps choose to love each other romantically". When Bello told her how she really felt about her, the feeling was mutual, as they "began the long, painful, wonderful process of trying to figure out what our relationship was supposed to be". Maria also reminisces on the first time she met Clare two years ago describing her "sitting in a bar wearing a Fedora and speaking in [a] Zimbabwean accent".

Her son Jackson was born from a log term relationship with TV producer Dan McDermott, she admits to being concerned about how her 12-year old would react. "He looked at me for what seemed like an eternity and then broke into a huge, warm smile telling her; "Mom, love is love, whatever you are". What a very mature and open-minded response coming from a boy his age. Bello, who keeps a good relationship with her ex Dan McDermott, says that she now has "two partners in her life: Clare and Dan...Jack, Clare and I have dinner together almost every night...mostly the four of us laugh a lot together". Jackson, who is a fan of ABC's "Modern Family" says "they have their own version" telling Bello "he loves [their] modern family".

What do you think of Maria Bello's revelation? Were you shocked or did you "have a feeling"?
