Grand Theft Auto V has gone platinum, and earlier this week Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Awards celebrated.

This week the Rockstar Games game received the highest honor, the Platinum Award, at the PlayStation Awards in Japan. Grand Theft Auto V earned the award by selling one million copies of the violent video game within PlayStation Awards' definition of a year, between Nov. 1, 2012 and Oct. 31, 2013.

Eight other games were rewarded with the Gold Prize, meaning the game sold between 500,000 and one million copies within the designated year. This year's winners were Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Dragon's Crown, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, One Piece: Pirates Warriors 2, Tales of Xillia 2, World Soccer Winning Eleven 2013 and Yakuza 5.

The PlayStation Awards also gave the Special Prize to games that embodied influence, novelty and topicality, Yahoo! News reports. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Phantasy Star Online 2 received the award this year. Cytus Lambda, a mobile music game available on Android, iOS and Vita, also won a Special Prize.

Finally, gamers got to voice their opinion with the User's Choice Awards. This award went to video games based on votes cast by consumers. Grand Theft Auto V and Dragon's Crown saw their second victories with the User's Choice Award. In addition, Beyond: Two Souls, Killzone: Mercenary, The Last of Us, The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki, Persona 4 Golden, Soul Sacrifice and Tomb Raider won for the first time this year.

Meanwhile, the Grand Theft Auto franchise continues to grow with a new version of an old favorite. Recently, Rockstar Games announced a mobile version of a Grand Theft Auto V predecessor, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Starting in December, gamers can reminisce by hijacking cars in a universe that Rockstar Games says encompasses Grand Theft Auto V's Los Santos, as well as Las Venturas and San Fierra.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas mobile will be available on Android, Amazon Kindle, iOS and Windows Mobile devices.
