Samsung has officially announced its latest smartphone, the Galaxy J -- a hybrid device combined with the best features of the tech giant's previous models, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. Although the device is exclusively available in Taiwan and Japan, its design at least gives a slight hint what to expect from Samsung in 2014.

It is rumored that Samsung has been linked with a change to metal-bodied phones for a while. The promotional video that was released via YouTube, which simply describes the product as "just fast," "just elegant," "just for you" and "just simple," highlights the simplicity of the mobile phone's design.

When the back of the phone is shown off, it appears that the device has a metal rear casing. Naturally, many have hopefully assumed the mystery device, which appears to feature a brushed-metal back, LTE and a thin profile, to be the Galaxy S5.

According to the Galaxy J's feature list, it has a 5-inch 1080p screen and a Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.3GHz, and takes onboard the 3GB of RAM seen in the Note 3, giving it all the power in a more reasonably-sized package. A 13-megapixel rear camera is fitted, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is installed, making it compatible with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. It's also ready to connect to local LTE-Advanced 4G networks.

With a suggested retail price of 21,900 New Taiwan dollars (around $740), the white version will go on sale Dec. 13, and a pink option is expected to arrive in January 2014.
