Manchester City climbed to second place behind Chelsea in the Premier League after a 6-0 win against Queen Park Rangers. Striker Sergio Aguero scored a hat trick that sealed the game for Man City and sent QPR into relegation.

The game was a must-win for QPR, which found themselves at the bottom of the league standings for far too long. However, facing relegation seemed not enough motivation as they lost the game to City at the Etihad Stadium, reported ESPN FC Asia.

The loss left QPR with a remaining maximum of six points for its last two matches in the league. The team needed at least nine points to stay in the Premier League.

Aguero opened his scoring parade in the fourth minute when he outmaneuvered the defense of QPR to shoot a goal that goalkeeper Robert Green failed to save, First Post reported.

The second goal came from Aleksandar Kolarov, who hit a stunning free kick just right outside the box in the 32nd minute. Aguero fired another goal to get his brace in the 50th minute of the game.

QPR players were unable to keep up as it seemed clear that the first goal from Aguero deeply unnerved them and rendered them helpless against City's attacks. The team continued to struggle with their defense line which led to a foul against Silva, awarding City with a penalty kick.

Aguero took the penalty and completed his hat trick of the game in the 63rd minute, securing the score with a left top corner goal away from Green.

Seven minutes after, James Milner fired another shot at the goal which saw the ball hit the net and gave City a 5-0 score in the 69th minute. David Silva's 87th minute goal sealed the win for City and put QPR in relegation with Hull City and Burnley.

Aguero's hat trick placed him as the current top scorer for the season with 25 goals. City manager Manuel Pellegrini revealed the Argentine's desire to be the top scorer.

"He wants to be the top scorer this season but I think it's also the way he is playing," said Pellegrini. He added, "He is working a lot more during the game, moving more and receiving more balls."
