Prior to the arrival of baby Mia Alma, Hilton was father to one child, his son, Mario Armando Lavandeira, who was born in 2013.

Now that his son Mario is big brother to Mia, Hilton is overjoyed.

According to The Associated Press, Hilton explained the meaning behind his daughter's name. He revealed that Mia Alma means "my soul" in Spanish, "because I'm cheesy like that."

And though Hilton dished on the meaning of his newborn's name, he chose not to disclose Mia's birth location in an effort to protect his surrogate's identity.

Hilton told AP that the journey to having another child was something that he chose to keep secret.

"It's been the hardest secret I've kept in a long time," Hilton said about wanting a second child. "I'm excited for [my two children,] so they can have each other and my son can look after her. It's a real family now."

Hilton later opened up more on the birth of his daughter and his journey to have a second child on his website.

Hilton revealed that Mia was born on Saturday, May 9 and weighed a healthy 6 pounds, 9 ounces.

Mia was the miraculous result of having three failed pregnancy attempts, Hilton revealed.

"After three failed pregnancy attempts and a lot of sadness, I was beginning to lose hope. Then, after a fourth try, the positive pregnancy result!" Hilton wrote, adding, "This is what I've dreamed of my whole life."

In addition to gushing over his newborn, Hilton also wrote about Mia's birth being a way to push for surrogacy legality in all states.

"This dream of being a parent is something that many Americans share. Gay AND straight Americans both use surrogacy to start or add to their families. Yet, in many states, surrogacy is illegal," Hilton explained.

He added, "As the Supreme Court is ready to make their landmark decision on same-sex marriage, I feel the need to get political and urge all politicians to please make surrogacy legal nationwide."
