Anne Hathaway will be starring in "Colossal," a film helmed by cult director Nacho Vigalondo, which appears to fall under a unique genre. According to reports, the film is a combination of tones from "Godzilla" mixed with "Lost in Translation."

The film's official synopsis revealed that Hathaway was selected to portray the role of Gloria, an ordinary woman, who moves back to her hometown after she loses her job and breaks up with her fiancé. However, when she gets wind of news about a giant lizard attacking Tokyo, she suddenly realizes that her mind is weirdly attached to the distant events.

To prevent destruction, Gloria needs to find out how and why she has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world despite her belief that she is a very insignificant person.

"'Colossal' is my most ambitious script, so far -- and probably also the most personal one," Vigalondo told The Hollywood Reporter. "Having Anne and this terrific team around goes beyond my craziest expectations."

Successfully casting an Oscar winner like Hathaway was a huge deal for Vigalondo. According to AV Club, Vigalondo's previous productions have all maintained a relatively low profile with Elijah Wood as the biggest celebrity he has taken on in his 2014 thriller titled "Open Windows."

When Vigalondo confirmed last fall that "Colossal" was going to happen, he said that he joked about some plans to use goofy costumes. "I have got an idea that is going to make it so cheap that you will feel betrayed," he teased.

Nahikari Ipiña is going to produce the film under the Sayaka Producciones banner. Reports also indicated that the film will be shipped to foreign buyers at Cannes by the financier Voltage Pictures. In addition, the film's executive producers will be Garrett Basch and Vigalondo.

"As huge fans of 'Timecrimes,' we are thrilled to be collaborating with a film maker as talented as Nacho," Voltage Pictures CEO Nicolas Chartier said. "He has written an extraordinary, unique piece of material and we look forward to seeing Anne in such a challenging role," he added.

After "Colossal," Hathaway will next be seen this fall in "The Intern," which is a comedy directed by Nancy Meyers. Meanwhile, the sequel to "Alice in Wonderland" -- "Alice Through the Looking Glass" -- will also come to fruition next summer. Hathaway will be reprising her role as the White Queen.
