Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts has officially come out as a homosexual, her first acknowledgement of her sexual orientation, through a recent post on Facebook.

Huffington Post reports that Sunday marked a 100-day anniversary for Roberts, following a successful bone marrow transplant that was the result of a battle against a life-threatening blood disorder called Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). In a Facebook post on Sunday, Roberts reached out to friends, family and loved ones to thank them for helping her through the past year, as she looks with optimism forward to 2014.

In the post Roberts thanks girlfriend Amber Laign for helping her through her recovery. This was the first time the GMA host has spoken publicly of her sexual orientation.

"At this moment I am filled with joy and gratitude. I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored health," Roberts wrote. "I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life."

"I am grateful for my entire family, my long-time girlfriend Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together."

People reports that Roberts and Laign have been in a relationship together for the past ten years, after they were first introduced by mutual friends.

Laign is a native to San Francisco, where she works as a licensed massage therapist. She has her own private practice where she specializes in patients who are recovering from injuries.

Aside from Roberts's struggle with MDS, with which she was diagnosed in 2012, she has also survived another serious health battle that began several years prior. In 2007 Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer, though she has since gone into remission.

Reuters reports that Roberts is currently in the process of writing a book about her struggles with MDS and breast cancer, and the lessons that she learned from these illnesses. Her memoir is slated to be published in April by Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group.

In her Facebook post, Roberts wrote that "on this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too."

She also posted a quotation which she says she hopes will comfort her fans as much as it does her:

"If you are depressed, you are living in the past, if you are anxious, you are living in the future, if you are at peace, you are living in the present."
