It appears that a growing number of people believe that the PlayStation 4 is the console of the next generation.

Wedbush Securities Analyst Michael Pachter recently ranked the game consoles in order of best to worst in terms of their outlook. He has always been critical of Nintendo games and his recent comments suggest that will continue, but Pachter also mentioned that he believes the PS4 still has the edge over its Xbox 360 counterpart.

"This is how it goes: We expect Sony's and Microsoft's new consoles to thrive over the next three years, with cumulative worldwide sales of 37.7 million PS4 and 29 million Xbox One consoles by year-end 2016. We do not expect Nintendo's Wii U to fare as well, with cumulative sales of under 20 million by 2016."

In December Pachter predicted and explained Sony's approach for the upcoming months.

"We expect Sony to continue to ship 1 million consoles per month, so as of the end of January, we believe Sony will have manufactured a cumulative 5 million consoles and will have shipped 4.25 - 4.5 million," he said at the time. "We expect the 55 percent allocation to North America to continue through January, and then revert to a more normalized 40 percent of units once Sony launches in Japan and other countries. We think that Microsoft is on a similar production schedule, with similar allocations to North America."

Despite what anybody says, the console war seems like it is still heating up since both consoles were just released in November. Once Microsoft and Sony have some time to develop next-gen gaming experiences even further, perhaps one side will emerge as the top game console. In the meantime, it looks like PS4 has a bit of an edge. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section!
