“Suicide Squad” has already revealed official looks of the team’s characters, but the much talked about romantic angle between The Joker, played by Jared Leto, and Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, remained to be unknown.

Fortunately for the DC story’s fans, Just Jared managed to obtain some set photos that showed these two characters in one scene, having an argument and later sharing a kiss.

These new on-set pictures give the fans a sneak peek into the comic book couple’s origin story, even showing Harley before she became the colorful bad girl that she is famous for.

Leto’s take on Batman’s arch nemesis had a bit of a crazed animal vibe, and Robbie’s portrayal of Harley was purposely designed to match. Now, though, they can finally be seen together sharing the same scene.

Screen Rant has pointed out that the relationship between The Joker and Harley Quinn has always been twisted and co-dependent. However, the rumor mill has indicated that in “Suicide Squad,” their bond will be a bit strained due to circumstances that remain unknown. Still, this criminal duo will always manage to put Bonnie and Clyde to shame.

In the recently leaked set photos, the scene showed an untransformed Harley Quinn, that is, before she had bleached white skin. They seemed to be in a heated argument when Harley suddenly shoots a civilian then aims the gun at The Joker. Instead of being afraid, the infamous Clown Prince just grabbed the gun and slapped her on the face.

Judging by Robbie’s attire in the scene, MTV has reported that her bookish aesthetic may have been indicatory that the scene was a flashback into the time when The Joker had first met Harley and had eventually manipulated her into becoming his partner in crime.

Harley Quinn, originally named Harleen Quinzel, was actually a doctor at Arkham Asylum, where The Joker was rehabilitated. Instead of doing her job as a physician, she falls in love with him instead and helps him escape to spite a co-worker.

When she later realizes that what she did was wrong, The Joker is already ahead of her and dumps her into the same vat of chemicals that turned him into the psychotic villain that he is now known for. As a result, the new Harley Quinn emerges from the vat with bleached white skin, hair that constantly changes color, and also as mentally unstable as The Joker is.
