Google has already started to roll out Android Wear 5.1.1 to all of the their compatible devices, much to the delight of LG G Watch and G Watch R users, according to Google Product Forums. The news comes after the company announced last month that the update will only be available for the LG Watch Urbane.

This particular update brings with it a slate of new features and developments to Google's wearable device platform.

Examples of such features are new launcher and wrist gestures, new types of heads-up notifications, always-on display, the ability to draw different emojis, a screen-lock feature, and an added option to change the device’s font size, among others.

Furthermore, the Android Wear 5.1.1 also improves the devices by giving it Wi-Fi support. This particular feature, though, according to GSM Arena, is only available on the Moto 360, LG Watch Urbane, Samsung Gear Live, and Sony Smartwatch 3.

According to multiple online news sources, LG G Watch and G Watch R users cannot access the update’s Wi-Fi support, even if the OS supports it. Apparently, the original G Watch does not have the necessary hardware. However, it must be noted that future versions of the R may have it.

Plus, LG Watch Urbane and Asus Zenwatch users can access the Google Play Music app through the new Android Wear 5.1.1. Users can now scroll through their smartphone’s music, and even turn on the Radio, right on their smartwatch, according to PC World.

Just like any other over-the-air update, the Android Wear 5.1.1 may also take some time before it reaches certain wearable gadget units. Android Police pointed out that OS updates are naturally delivered and distributed at relatively slow paces. They are first sent to a small portion of compatible users, oftentimes around 1 percent, in a span of a few hours to a couple of days. However, Reddit has confirmed that some LG G Watch and G Watch R users already received the OTA update.

If no bug reports are sent, Google will release the update to a larger population of users. What is important is that the larger bundle of updates does not end up causing problems, making the distribution of the OTA update smooth and quick.

However, with Google’s official announcement, Android Central is positive that the new update will be making its way to every compatible wearable device shortly, particularly those that have the latest version of the Android Wear app installed on their smartphones and/or phablets.
