Samsung's next-generation flagship device, the Galaxy S5, could possibly feature an improved gesture control that will keep track of the position of the user's entire head, following the previous Galaxy S4's eye-tracking technology.

The latest published European patent application indicates a method for controlling the smartphone through the front-facing camera registering head movements. Such an impressive technology could be conveniently used in situations, where the users are unable to touch the phone or wearing gloves that do not register on a touch screen.

The recent patent also reveals that the operations on the upcoming phone could be controlled through head command gestures, such as a wink, a nod, or even an eyebrow raise for advanced users, and the user will be required a confirmation before the function is executed.

In addition, after the release of Galaxy S4, the South Korean giant certainly had enough to further develop the tracking technology for its upcoming product. The patent application, which was actually filed back in July 2013, was published on Thursday, in the same week that the executive vice president for Samsung's mobile business, Lee Young Hee, announced that Samsung might also include an iris-scanning feature on the upcoming Galaxy S5 to boost its security. "Many people are fanatical about iris recognition technology," said Lee. "We are studying the possibility but can't really say whether we will have it or not on the S5."

The executive vice president has confirmed that Samsung is expecting to release new Android phone Galaxy S5 this spring, in April 2014.
