Reggaeton artist J Balvin took to Instagram on Saturday to announce to fans that his father was ill and in the hospital.

The singer took to social media with a selfie that featured his father in the background laying in a hospital bed with bandages on his right eye.

"Take care of your parents!! Move forward. Get better dad," he captioned the photo.

Other than the image, the Latin singer -- who is popular for hits "Ay Vamos" and "Yo Te Lo Dije" and who has been featured on Spanish versions of hits "Blurred Lines" and Ariana Grande's "Problem" -- has not revealed what his father's condition is like or details of the illness.

According to People En Español, Balvin received support from fellow urban music star Winsin. The singer wished Balvin's father a full recovery on social media and as did the staff of Spanish-language talk show "El Gordo y La Flaca."

Balvin, who was part of People En Español's 50 Most Beautiful 2015, was recently in hot water for comments he made about Colombian women in a recent radio interview as reported by Latin Times.

When asked by the host of Mega 97.9's if the women from Bogata are beautiful the Colombian star responded yes, but said no by shaking his finger. Balvin is known for being a practical joker, but when a video of the incident was released he decided to apologize to fans for the offense with several videos on his Instagram account.

Since the post announcing that his father is ill, Balvin has taken to Instagram once more to thank fans and friends for their prayers and support with a picture of his and his father's hands. The image shows off one of Balvin's many tattoos, which he makes a reference to in the image caption.
