How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are now apologizing after receiving piles of complaints claiming that Monday's episode was racist against Asians.

"With Monday's episode, we set out to make a silly and unabashedly immature homage to Kung Fu movies, a genre we've always loved," Bays said via Twitter. "But along the way we offended people. We're deeply sorry, and we're grateful to everyone who spoke up to make us aware of it."

After Monday's episode, the hashtag "#HowIMetYourRacism" began spreading on Twitter.

"We try to make a show that's universal, that anyone can watch and enjoy. We fell short of that this week, and feel terrible about it," Bays continued.

Thomas also shared an apologetic tweet.

"I second everything @carterbays just tweeted -- we love all #HIMYM fans and apologize that we caused offense," he tweeted.

Monday's episode, entitled "Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra," featured Marshall (Jason Segel) learning Kung Fu. As a result, the show's characters dressed up in stereotypical Asian style including kimonos, Fu Manchu moustache and chopsticks.

"Wow, @HowIMetMother goes yellowface. This is really offensive," Kenji Onozawa said via Twitter.

"#HowIMetYourRacism our race and cultures are not convenient costumes, punch lines and terrible story writing for @CBS's #HIMYM," Felix Hythlodaeus tweeted.

"HIMYM just continues the orientalist touchstone of using archaic imagery to propagate china/the east as unchanging," @kikosenpai said.

Some viewers are defending the show and say that outrage is an overreaction.

"#HowIMetYourRacism? Really folks? Stop being so hypersensitive. It was to spoof Kung fu movies. I can't stand this politically correct bs," Sean Hood tweeted.

Meanwhile, others are still making a joke out of the entire situation.

"The producers of How I Met Your Mother wish to say 'Me so solly!' #HowIMetYourRacism," Sean Andre said
