Colombian music star Juanes took to Twitter to announce to his fans that he would be performing for Pope Francis when he visits the United States in September for "The World Meeting of Families."

The famous singer and guitarist, known for hits like "A Dios Le Pido" and "La Camisa Negra,"  made the announcement on his Twitter account early Tuesday morning.

"Profoundly honored by the invitation to perform for Pope Francis," said the 42-year-old musician.

The official announcement, NBC News reported, was made by the World Meeting 2015 website on their Twitter page. Juanes, along with Italian singer Andrea Bocelli and The Philadelphia Orchestra, will be performing on Sept. 26 for the event, which will be aired live worldwide.

The Pope will be visiting New York City and Washington, D.C., along with Philadelphia, for the event. The World Meeting of Families is held every three years and is the largest gathering of Catholic families. The theme for this year's event is "Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive." The event's purpose is to support the concepts and values of family.

While the Catholic Church's concepts on family are very traditional, Pope Francis has publicly discussed modern concepts of same-sex marriage and contraception during his time as leader of the Catholic Church.

Most recently, changes in the concepts of families have been up for debate in some of the most Catholic nations like Spain and Brazil, which allow gay marriage, reported The New York Times.

Juanes, who is also known for his activism and was named one of "Time Magazine's Most Influential" in 2005, is currently touring across Europe and the U.S. on his "Loco De Amor" tour with guest performances by singer Ximena Sarañana.
