We've all heard the saying "the best things come in small packages." In late October of 2012, multinational manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles PSA Peugeot Citroën inaugurated the production line for the new EB Turbo PureTech engine in northern France.

The company is the second-largest European-based automaker after Volkswagon Group. According to the press release, PSA Peugeot Citroën used a three-cylinder architecture on a range of technologies to meet their future targets of reduced fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions while maintaining reliability in design.

Recently, according to a report in March 2014, the EB turbo-charged engine will be plugged into the Peugeot 308 as well as the Citroën C4, the company's other product line.

The new Peugeot is set to have a downsized direct injection turbo engine of 1.2 litres that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 18 percent, compared to today's 4-cylinder engines. The vehicle also uses a new generation high yield turbo that offers 240,000 revolutions per minute.

The 'wild cat' also has an optimised combustion including the centrally positioned, high pressure 200 bar direct injection. Thanks to laser technology, the position of the injector has the shape of a spray which pulses 3 injections per combustion.

The Peugeot 308 is engineered in such a way that it has an adjusted size crankshaft which offsets the cylinders and uses a lubricated belt plus a diamond-like coating on the piston rods, pins and rings to reduce friction.

The Peugeot 504 and 505 were some of the best names heard in the '80s, vehicles which symbolized the roar of the lion logo in the world of sporting. Enthusiasts can hope this new generation vehicle will make some noise.

The politics behind Peugeot production are getting complicated as the French government and Chinese groups are buying stakes in the carmaker, whose primary market is France.
