Raheem Sterling is willing to stay with Liverpool, only if it's under a different manager.

The 20-year-old player said he is unable to work with manager Brendan Rodgers anymore, and this is the reason he wants out of Liverpool, The Guardian reported.

The English striker missed a day of training on Wednesday, reporting sick, and is not expected to attend succeeding trainings. Sterling said he will not go to Liverpool's pre-season tour if it's under Rodgers. The club said that Sterling still has to accomplish club duties by joining the team in the Southeast Asian and Australian tour. According to The Guardian, management ordered Sterling to travel with the team and attend the first friendly selection in Bangkok, Thailand.

Rodger maintains: 'We are close'

The Reds are desperate to keep "Heemio" in Liverpool and out of prospect transfer destination Manchester City, according to a June Telegraph report.

Sterling and Rodgers were reported to have talked in a 25-minute meeting on Wednesday, discussing contract details. Rodgers reassured Sterling that if the problem is financial, they will resolve it before the transfer window closes, Sky Sports reported.

The English attacker, however, is firm in his decision that he has seen the last of his playing time under Rodgers. Sterling is adamant that he will not play another minute under the former Swansea manager.

Sterling added that Rodgers has repeatedly broken confidentiality of talks between them, including the claims that he refuses to go on the preseason tour, reported Mirror.

'If you replace Rodgers'

Sterling said that he would stay at Anfield if Rodgers is replaced. Rodgers, however, still continues to claim that he and Sterling have always had a close relationship, the Mirror report said.

Sterling feels the manager has made sure to be close to him when media is allowed into trainings so they will be photographed together.

Fan reactions

Sterling expressed his disappointment in Reds fans with the way they have treated him. He feels like the English club has launched a PR campaign against him, as reported by Daily Mail.

Liverpool fans are fuming over Sterling's actions. Sterling woke up to thousands of angry messages, including racist texts, on his phone after his number was leaked online, Mirror reported.

The winger has already changed his number three times in the past year, but each time the number got out. Sterling believes it is an inside job.

Man City interest still in question

Manchester City have already placed two rejected bids on the English international, and a third offer is not widely expected as Man City already expressed their disinterest, noted The Guardian.

Experts place the Man Utd estimated bid at less than the £50 million Sterling wants, despite ESPN FC's prior reports that the Sky Blues are willing to pay him exactly what he wants.
