This seems like a match made in pop heaven: Miley Cyrus and Madonna will team up for a country edition of MTV Unplugged... even though neither would be considered "country" artists!

The Independent is reporting that the Material Girl, 55, was spotted rehearsing with the 21-year-old "Adore You" singer. The episode will air tonight, and will feature songs from Miley's latest album.

Orange UK is also reporting that the lineup of songs includes "Wrecking Ball" (which made headlines last year for Miley appearing naked in the video), along with some Madonna classics such as "Don't Tell Me" (where she appeared in cowboy gear -- guess that qualifies as "country"), and that many pop stars have come to accept that performing for Madonna is a "rite of passage" into mainstream acceptance. "Performing alongside Madonna has become something of a rite of passage or seal of approval for young female pop superstars, following shows in which she has collaborated with the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and MIA," reports Orange.

"The performance will showcase a more intimate side of Cyrus and feature surprise guests for an unexpected re-invention of the songs that have defined her career, including several from her number one critically-acclaimed album, Bangerz," an official statement ahead of the show read. "The Unplugged stage will serve as the perfect platform for her to show viewers what inspires and ignites her music and her passions," it continued.

The press release went on to honor the "intimate and direct connection" that Cyrus shares with her fans, through her "music, personality and no-holds-barred attitude".

Those who aren't in America can check out the show tomorrow, when it will be internationally syndicated on MTV Worldwide. Which songs do you think Miley and Madonna should perform? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
