Federal agents are keeping a close eye on Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's wife in California, since the drug lord escaped from a high security prison in Mexico days ago.

According to the New York Post, El Chapo's wife is a 25-year-old former Sinaloa beauty queen named Emma Coronel Aispuro. The couple met back in 2006 when she was just 17 years old.

Coronel gave birth to a set of twin girls at Antelope Valley Hospital in 2011. El Chapo was wanted both in Mexico and the United States at the time, which is perhaps why his signature is absent from the birth certificate.

The baby girls hold dual citizenship just like their mother. But where is their father?

El Chapo was with his wife and daughters last when Mexican marines charged into his apartment to take him away, according to The Daily Beast.

The most wanted drug lord has two previous wives who he does not have direct contact with. One of El Chapo's former wives helped American agents track down one of his henchmen. The bust also led to one of his many safe houses.

Since then, Coronel has never been questioned although her family members have close ties with her husband's drug cartel.

Her uncle, Ignacio Coronel Villarreal, was one of El Chapo's partners. He was killed in a shootout with Mexican authorities back in 2010, according to Los Angeles Times.

Meanwhile, both Mexican and American authorities are searching for the powerful drug lord yet again. It has been reported that prison officials helped El Chapo escape on Saturday. Nearly 50 people have been questioned in connection with the incident.

"When Guzman is arrested again, the U.S. should pursue his extradition in accordance with our treaty with Mexico governing such cases," Sen. Marco Rubio said.

El Chapo escaped prison through an underground tunnel that connected his cell with the outside world.
