"Falling Skies" is entering the final stretch in its final season, and so the battle between Pope and Mason is nearing its end.

This week's episode is "Pope Breaks Bad" (not to be confused with AMC's "Breaking Bad"). According to CarterMatt, the synopsis below shows a number of subplots that could happen in the next episode:

"A mission to procure vehicles and fuel goes awry. Cochise shares troubling news with Anne that will test both her medical and leadership skills. Anthony's mental stability and his loyalties are brought into question. Meanwhile, a desperate Pope takes things into his own hands."

Based on the synopsis and the title, this episode will focus on Pope, who is very unhinged this season. According to Hollywood Reporter, Pope and Mason will go at it one last time. In a panel at San Diego Comic Con, Noah Wyle and Colin Cunningham explained the complex relationship between their respective characters.

"When Tom and Pope were adversarial, the show was really, really interesting," Wyle said, pointing out that the series "lost a little bit of the teeth" when the characters were working together.

"But we knew they were going to have their last go-around it was going to come at some point. This season obviously being the last, we don't truncate," he added.

Cunningham says otherwise, stating the "gloves are off."

Only one will survive the season, but who? More than likely it will be Mason that survives. This episode will be the beginning of the end for one of these characters.
