Ever since it was confirmed that the monster science fiction film "Pacific Rim" will have a sequel, many fans of the movie have been eager to know what's next in store for the film's story.

Director Guillermo Del Toro offered bits of information about the upcoming sequel though he refused to hint at the possible plot of the movie.

Speaking to Yahoo, the Mexican filmmaker revealed that he and the design team are already working on the look of the new robots and "Kaiju" in the second movie.

"We are deep into designing the robots, the Kaijus, having fun planning the battles," said Del Toro. "We have an epic battle at the end [that] we started designing a couple of weeks ago."

"Pacific Rim 2" is said to focus more on the huge Kaiju and will continue the story a few years after the timeline of the first film.

Del Toro also revealed that the movie will begin shooting in November to meet a 2017 release date, reported Comic Book.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the sequel "Pacific Rim 2" is the reason the Mexican director pulled out of a project with Warner Bros. to shoot a superhero film.

According to The Daily Beast, Del Toro declined the project "Justice League Dark" to shoot the sequel instead.

The director was reportedly in talks to direct the movie that will bring the characters of John Constantine, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon to the big screen when he pulled out of negotiations.

"Warner liked the script, they were very enthusiastic and wanted to green-light it but they wanted it to coincide with the shoot of 'Pacific Rim 2,'" revealed the Mexican filmmaker. "I was put in a very difficult place facing a difficult choice, and I chose to do 'Pacific Rim 2.'"

No word has been made on whether the sequel will feature actors from the first movie. Charlie Hunnam is tied with "Crimson Peak," another Del Toro directed film, and it has yet to be confirmed if he will return to the second film as well.

It is also unclear if Rinko Kikuchi will return to reprise Mako Mori in the second movie. However, Del Toro previously teased the possible appearance of Dr. Newton Geiszler, played by Charlie Day, in the sequel, noted Cinema Blend.

The director already admitted that part of his reason for helming "Pacific Rim" is because of Kikuchi's character.

"The reason I made the movie was Mako," said Del Toro. "And I made the decision that the central male and female characters are going to get the least amount of lines because they're closed in characters who don't want to tall to anyone - except they want to talk to each other. As friends, as colleagues."

"Pacific Rim 2" will hit theaters on August 4, 2017.
