Another couple from Hollywood has broken up. Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog have split after years of "being together." The news of the break up comes weeks ahead of the new "Muppets Show."

The break up was announced via the social networking site, Facebook. Miss Piggy issued a statement that reads "after careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling" she and Kermit have finally "made the difficult decision to terminate their romantic relationship."

Even though they are no longer together, the popular pig from "The Muppets" expressed that she and Kermit will continue to collaborate and work together on TV. Miss Piggy also noted that there was nothing else they can say about the "private matter unless they get the right offer" for it.

Kermit, on the other hand, reposted the statement Miss Piggy made on her Facebook profile, but not without hinting that it was not him who initiated the decision to end their relationship.

The two are set to return to the television screens once again as ABC will be airing new episodes of "The Muppets Show" in September.

Only for publicity?

Both Kermit and Miss Piggy were guests at the Television Critics Association panel on Tuesday where they can not help but mention about their past romantic ties.

"Piggy and I have gone our separate ways, romantically," confirmed Kermit to US Magazine. He also added that working with his ex on the show is far from being easy.

"It can be tough to work with your ex," he said. "Especially if your ex is a pig."

Miss Piggy on the other hand, seemed nonplussed with the split.

"It's good publicity," she said. "I'm glad we're broken up. This is going to be great for moi's stardom. Now everybody's going to worry about oh, who's she dating? Who's she getting caught snogging with?"

Many did speculate that the break up is all part of a publicity stunt given its timing, noted The Guardian. It did not help that after the break up statement came out on Facebook, Kermit already invited fans to watch out for the upcoming show.

The reboot of "The Muppets Show" will have a "mockumentary" feel on the lives of all the muppets behind the scenes of Miss Piggy's new show, "Up Late With Miss Piggy," stated USA Today.

The new show will have a "reality TV" feel, complete with hidden cameras to document the lives of the muppets.

Producer Bill Prady is excited for the new show.

"To the certain extent from a productions side, this is a magic trick," he explained. "It's going to this amazing world and getting it to look haphazard and casual."

The new "Muppets Show" will air on ABC beginning September 22.
