Warner Bros. announced at last year's San Diego Comic Con that Batman would be in the next Man of Steel movie, which is tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman, although further details are unknown and the release date is said to be sometime in 2016.

Warner Bros. also plans to turn the Batman: Arkham game series into an animated movie due out later this year called Batman: Assault on Arkham and is to be directed by Jay Oliva, who is the same person that worked on parts one and two of The Dark Knight Returns.

Fox has announced plans to release a Batman prequel series called Gotham, featuring the life of a young Jim Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie) against the criminal underworld. Robin Lord Taylor of Another Earth plays the Penguin, also known as Oswald Cobblepot. The Fox character is described as: "the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor."

Sean Pertwee of Doomsday will play the young butler Alfred Pennyworth, described as: "A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Alfred Pennyworth has loyally served the Waynes. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he's fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne." Erin Richards from Being Human will play Barbara Kean: "a sophisticated emergency room doctor, Barbara is the fiancée of James Gordon, joyful but with an edge of vulnerability. She stands by her future husband ... which can be difficult in a world as corrupt as Gotham."

Zabryna Guevara from Burn Notice will be Gordon's boss at the GCPD Homicide Squad Captain Essen, who "balances the two worlds of police and politics with a Machiavellian skill that's as much corporate litigator as cop." So far, Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle (catwoman) have not been cast yet and the series will be created by the same team that brought The Mentalist.
