Baba Rahman can't wait to work with his new team.

The 21-year-old Ghanaian also expressed elation at the thought of being mentored by Jose Mourinho, according to Chelsea FC's website.

Rahman's comments came after the Blues struck a deal with Ausburg to send the defender to Stamford Bridge for £21.7 million.

Chelsea FC confirmed Rahman's transfer on their website, saying, "Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce we have reached an agreement with FC Augsburg for the transfer of Abdul Baba Rahman."

The site quoted Rahman as saying, "I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I can't wait to train with my new team-mates and very much looking forward to working with them and Mr Mourinho."

The signing will soon address Chelsea's defensive woes after Filipe Luis left the squad to rejoin his former club, Atletico Madrid, just recently.

Rahman has since thanked Ausburg and its supporters on the Bundesliga side's official website.

"I want to thank the fans for their great support and wish the entire team all the best. I hope they have another successful season."

Although leaving Ausburg was difficult for him, he explained the transfer was necessary for his professional growth.

"I have made this decision and it is really not easy because I felt good at Augsburg," he said. 'But the move to England is a very big opportunity for me to play at a top club like Chelsea, so I would like to take this step. I am really looking forward to playing with many great footballers."

Rahman spent 12 months with Augsburg after coming in from Greuther Fürth in August last year. He has appeared 31 times for the Bavarian club last season.

The defender was part of Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations squad, who fell to Ivory Coast in the final match last February.

Meanwhile, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has given Jose Mourinho the green light to sign at least three new players to the squad.

According to Mirror UK, the decision came after Manchester City gave Chelsea a beat-down during Sunday's 3-0.

Chelsea will again try to acquire defender John Stones from Everton after having their initial bids of £20 million and £26 million rejected.

The new bid is reportedly billed at £30 million, £4 million less than what Everton is willing to parley with.

The defending Premier League champions are also targeting a marquee forward as well as a central midfielder.
