The Toronto Film Festival has announced the world cinema slate with many Latin American films in the mix.

Among the films that will be screening on the slate are "El Abrazo de la Serpiente" by Ciro Guerra. The film will be receiving its North American premiere after screening at the director's fortnight in May at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie was met with critical acclaim and was recently acquired by Oscilloscope Laboratories. The Colombian production is among the biggest Latin American films of the year and one that many will definitely be talking about come awards season.

From Uruguay and Spain comes "El Apóstata" by Federico Veiroj. The movie is the director's latest film, and it is receiving its world premiere. Meanwhile Ariel Rotter will his latest film "La Luz Incidente." The Argentine film will make its world premiere.

"Te prometo anarquía" by Julio Hernández Cordón will make its North American premiere following a successful screening at the Locarno Film Festival where it was bought by the Spanish company Latido. The Mexican co-production has already been one of the most lauded Latin American Films this year.

Peru will be represented by "Magallanes." The film was directed by Salvador del Solar, and the movie will be receiving its international premiere.

The last Latin American film in the slate is "Truman" by Cesc Gay. The Spanish-Argentine co-production will make its World Premiere.

Among the other films in the slate are the Un Certain Regard winner "Rams" from Iceland and the critically acclaimed Romanian film "The Treasure," which scored rave reviews out of Cannes.

The Toronto Film Festival is one of the most popular festivals in the world where a number of auteurs and awards films go. The festival is also said to be the start of awards season.

The festival runs from Sept. 10-20.
