Orlando Bloom has been announced to reprise the character of Will Turner in the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie.

The news was unexpected as the character did not appear in the fourth installment. With this big news, fans have started to speculate whether or not Keira Knightley will return to her role as Elizabeth Swan.

Ever since the franchise concluded in 2007, Knightley has been busy making indie films and was also nominated for an Oscar last year. Knightley has been open about not returning to the franchise and last year she told BBC radio that she would not reprise her role. She said, "My time has definitely passed, I loved it, it was an amazing experience but I won't be going back."

Knightley is currently enjoying her time as a new mother and her only movie currently scheduled for release is "Everest," which will open the Venice Film festival. She is expected to grace the red carpet along with her cast. Otherwise, her IMDb page has no new upcoming projects.

The last film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tides," was an international box office hit but it lacked the same hype domestically as many fans missed Bloom and Knightley's characters. Additionally, after the third installment "At World's End," it was Knightley and Bloom who concluded the end title sequence.

Where Disney takes the new film will be interesting but with Bloom back in the franchise, fans will be expecting Knightley.

Knightley is best known for her work on "Pride and Prejudice," "The Imitation Game," "A Dangerous Method," "Atonement" and "Anna Karenina."

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is currently in production with Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem and Geoffrey Rush starring. The movie will be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg and is slated for release on July 7, 2017.
