There's no shortage of superheroes and super villains in "Suicide Squad." One DC hero who won't be making an appearance is the Man of Steel himself, but Henry Cavill leaves the door open for Superman's return for the possible sequel.

In a report from Mirror.uk, the actor declined to put to rest rumors of a Superman cameo in upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie. However, when asked if he will be part of a sequel in the future, Cavill lifted the spirits of Superman loyalists saying, "I might be!"

Although the Man of Steel won't be showing up for "Suicide Squad," other superheroes from the DC universe will fill in for him. In a report by Cinema Blend, leaked videos from the set show Batman in a high speed car chase with Joker and Harley Quinn, while actor Ben Affleck, who will play Bruce Wayne in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," was also spotted on the set.

Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa of "Game of Thrones," is also rumored to show up for the "Suicide Squad" installment. According to a source from Heroic Hollywood, the aquatic hero is set to appear as a prisoner of Amanda Waller after getting caught by King Shark. Aquaman, who has a cameo in "Batman v Superman" as well, is slated for his own movie in 2018, but his presence in other DC films will satisfy fans who want a glimpse of the Atlantis superhero.

Director David Ayer has dropped hints on Twitter of Arkham Asylum being part of the "Suicide Squad" storyline. Batman foe Killer Croc is also expected to make an appearance in the film, according to The Wrap. The villain will be played by former "Thor: The Dark World" actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

The numerous cameos are good news for fans of DC, who are already looking forward to a formidable helm of superhero movies in the making. Aside from Suicide Squad, other DC films that are set to hit the big screens include "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Wonder Woman," "Justice League," "The Flash," "Aquaman," "Shazam," "Justice League 2," "Cyborg," and "Green Lantern," according to Screen Rant.

Although not officially confirmed, Jon Schnepp of "The Death of 'Superman Lives': What Happened?' dropped news of a new director for "Man of Steel 2" during an interview for Popcorn Talk's DC Movie News podcast. Schnepp revealed that George Miller of the highly successful "Mad Max: Fury Road" will be at the helm of the Man of Steel sequel.

"Suicide Squad" is slated to be released in theaters on August 5, 2016.
