Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga engaged in a scuffle during the press conference of their upcoming fight in Inglewood on Tuesday. But while the heated moment created headlines, Mayorga claimed that it was staged.

Mosley angrily charged into Mayorga after the latter slapped the hip of Mosley's girlfriend during the press conference. Mayorga clarified that he did not disrespect Mosley's girlfriend because it was all part of the show.

"Many people have labelled me as vulgar," Mayorga told Nicaragua Canal 4 as reported by BoxingScene. "It's true that I slapped the hip of Mosley's girl, but I told them I'm not a vulgar, disrespectful man; it was wrong. I'm a man who admires women."

Mayorga claimed that Mosley told him to do the stunt in order to sell their rematch that is scheduled on Aug. 29 in Inglewood, California. He insisted, though, that it was meant to sell the fight in the United States only because he does not need to do so in Nicaragua.

The 41-year-old Nicaraguan, who took a 12th-round knockout loss to Mosley during their first fight, also added that Mosley's father was not aware of the stunt, which was the reason why Jack Mosley reacted strongly.

"I don't need to sell the fight in Nicaragua because everyone will see it, but here in the United States they have to do everything," Mayorga said. "It was already planned that she would bend over and then Mosley would aggressively shove me."

Following Mayorga's claim that the scuffle was faked, World Boxing Council issued a statement to condemn the actions of both fighters. WBC pointed out that the simulated scuffle hurt the image and legacy of both fighters.

"In a video that has been spread through media and social networks, a fight, previously agreed, is shown between the fighters," the WBC said in a statement. "Shane Mosley's and Ricardo Mayorga's actions could have generated more serious and unfortunate consequences. These actions are totally unacceptable to our sport."
