Intel has revealed further details on their new wave of Skylake processors.

The sixth-gen processors will improve CPU and GPU performance that will prolong the battery lives of Apple's next-gen notebooks and desktops, Ars Technica reported.

Intel's latest batch of Core M processors will have 10 to 20 percent increase in CPU performance and 40 percent increase in GPU performance compared to corresponding Broadwell chips. Intel also promised considerable yearly improvements to their Core M lineup. Needless to say, the Core M processors will be well-suited for the 12-inch Retina MacBook.

Speaking of perfect fit, Intel's Core i5-6260U or i5-6360U chips are best for the low-end 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air. The latest pair of Core i7, on the other hand, will work seamlessly with the high-end versions of the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air.

Mac Rumors previously reported a leaked Intel slide deck. The slides revealed that the Skylake "U-Series" processors will boast 10 percent faster CPU and 34 percent faster GPU compared to equivalent Broadwell processors, while lasting 1.4 hours longer in battery life on the MacBook Air.

Moving on to the MacBook Pro, Intel's new 28-watt Core i5 and i7 chips are appropriate for the 13-inch model. They feature dual-core 2.9 GHz to 3.3 GHz processors with 3.1 GHz to 3.4 GHz Turbo Boost, Intel Iris Graphics 550, 1866 MHz LPDDR3 memory speed and 4MB of L3 cache.

The lower-end 13-inch MacBook Pro will most likely be fitted with the Core i5-6267U chip, its mid-level version with the Core i5-6287U and its high-end version with the Core i7-6567U. To note, the current generation 13-inch MacBook Pro is powered by Intel's Core i5-5257U, i5-5287U and i7-5557U chips, respectively.

The recent report by Ars Technica also talks of new Skylake processors that could be used for Apple desktops moving forward. The new set includes three Core i5 chips at levels 2.7 GHz 6400U, 3.2 GHz 6500U and 3.3 GHz 6600U. High-end iMacs might soon strut a new 3.4 GHz Core i7-6700U as well.

Rumor has it that Intel will release all of their latest Skylake desktop processors before 2015 ends. It's still unclear though as to when Apple might fit the new chips to its next-gen iMacs and when will they eventually be released.

Even though the Cupertino-based tech giant devotes the month of September for the next-gen iPhones, it usually holds press events in October to showcase the latest in iPad and Mac technology. Fans might grab hold of some new Mac updates before the holiday season rolls around this year.
