Selena Gomez admits that she once suffered with low self-esteem, but now claims she has overcome her demons and presently benefits from a renewed sense of self-worth.

In a message many decoded to be aimed at on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber, Gomez took to Twitter on Friday to post, "I was always insecure with my speaking voice because it's so low. I never felt like it was feminine-sounding. I didn't know it would be such an asset to who I am now, though. It adds a cool, personal quality. It's exciting."

The 23-year-old Gomez and Bieber first started dating in 2010, and since then have experienced what seems like a countless number of breakups and restarts. Most recently, the two were spotted sitting poolside together in Beverly Hills soon after the July Fourth holiday weekend "packing on PDA."

Hollywood Life added a source confirmed back then, "Justin and Selena were enjoying time at the pool together and couldn't hide that they were having a great time with each other. Justin is shirtless with a towel around his neck and sunglasses, walking away from the pool and inside the hotel. Selena has her hair up in a ponytail, wearing a large black T-shirt that looks like it belongs to Justin. She's following him inside."

In his new "What Do You Mean?" video, Bieber also appears to be sending his ex a message. Gomez doesn't appear anywhere in the video, but her name is scrawled across a wall in one of the scenes.

Word is Gomez was also thrilled beyond words with Bieber's recent performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.

"She knew going into the night that Justin was both excited and nervous," said a source. "She's happy for him and knows he's relieved that he pulled it off and was true to himself."
