Former two-time titlist Andre Berto is prepared to get back on a champion status by accomplishing no fighters has done before.

Berto is motivated to pull an upset win over the reigning pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

When Mayweather revealed Berto, as one of the two fighters he could face in his farewell fight this fall along with Karim Mayfield, several people just raised their eyebrows, treating the statement as one big joke, Boxing News 24 noted.

However, the rumor that it is indeed Berto who will be the one standing in the opposite corner for the September match seemed to be stronger as days went by, especially when TMZ claimed it to be true. Then, just a few weeks before the scheduled bout, "The Money" formally and officially announced Berto as his rightful 49th and last foe in his professional career, Boxing Scene informed.

Still, even after everything has been signed and dealt with both camps, Berto remained to be the underdog of this much-anticipated battle, a recent article of Boxing Scene noted.

Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) vows the world will see his value as a fighter that night.

"I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. I'm going to bring a combination of speed and power to the table and I believe I have better athletic ability (than Mayweather's previous opponents)," Berto said.

"I'm a young and hungry fighter coming in, and if I can take that (crown) away from him, that'd be huge. That's my mindset," Mayweather's challenger added.

Other boxers' predictions

Former light middleweight champion Austin Trout and former International Boxing Federation junior middleweight king Ishe Smith believe Berto may not win over Mayweather, but he will deliver an exceptional performance in the ring, something they expected from the Filipino champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao on May 2, but did not see.

"To be honest, Berto might give him a better fight than Pacquiao because Pacquiao looked gun shy, he didn't want to fight, he looked like he didn't want to be there. Mayweather's fought all the names in the game - not necessarily in their prime, but definitely fought all the names in the name. Berto is the fight that's gonna happen," Trout told OnTheRopesBoxing.

"Berto won't have excuses. He will come to fight and he's never been in a dull fight. He's [Berto] got a pretty good name in the sport. Everybody knows who he is. I think he's going to fight hard. I think he's going to put up a better effort than Manny, but I don't think it's going to be enough," Smith told FightHype.
