The Toronto Blue Jays are in first place in the American League East at the moment, but upper management must keep in mind that pitcher David Price has an expiring contract. The Blue Jays could re-sign Price, but many MLB insiders don't believe that will be the case this offseason.

According to reports, the New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox are all seriously interesting in signing Price this offseason. Those five squads rank among the top spending teams in the majors so this shouldn't come as a huge surprise.

The Dodgers' involvement does surprise some however. The Dodgers have arguably the best one two punch in the league with Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke leading the way. Kershaw is under contract until 2021, and Greinke's contract doesn't expire until 2019. The Dodgers pitching staff obviously hasn't held them back. It may be wise for the Dodgers to let Price walk and focus on building up their offense this offseason. The Dodgers offense ranks 19th in runs scored this season.

That same report also noted that such a future contract with Price would be "more than $210 million over seven years." Is David worth that price at his age? maybe. Price is now 30 years old, and his ERA this season is just 2.43. Price hasn't shown many signs of slowing down, and he's one of the best left handed pitchers in the game. The time may concern general managers more than the money. Giving a seven year contract to a 30-year-old pitcher certainly has its risks.

The Yankees were one of the teams listed in that report. With C.C. Sabathia on his last leg, Masahiro Tanaka struggling to stay healthy, and now Nathan Eovaldi possibly out for the rest of the season, this makes sense. After Alex Rodriguez and Sabathia's contracts expire in 2017, Brian Cashman and the Yankees will have an enormous amount of money to spend. The Yankees made an attempt to acquire Price before the trade deadline from the Detroit Tigers but couldn't beat out the Blue Jays.

The Yankees could have possibly made a deal for Price, but in order to do so, they would've had to of given up Luis Severino. Severino has been fantastic in his first five starts with just a 2.04 ERA. This could work out perfectly for the Bronx Bombers as they could very well end up with Price and keep Severino.

The Cubs are also in the mix. Like the Dodgers, the Cubs have had great pitching this season ranking sixth overall in team ERA. Jake Arrieta has been terrific, but Jon Lester doesn't have a winning record on the mound this season. This would be a very difficult decision for the Cubs because Lester's contract doesn't expire until 2021 in which he will make $100 million. Also like the Dodgers, the Cubs have to focus on improving their offense, which ranks 16th overall in runs scored.

The Washington Nationals have had a very disappointing season for so many reasons. The Nationals have spent a lot of money on their pitching staff but constant injuries have sent them back. Stephen Strasburg can't stay fully healthy, and he is set to become a free agent this offseason. The Nationals know what it's like to compete against top elite pitching teams as the Mets sit atop the National League East at the moment.

The Red Sox are also interested in adding Price. Price already played seven seasons for the Tampa Bay Rays and is now pitching for the Blue Jays so he's very familiar with the AL East.
