As expected, Apple announced the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at their press event Wednesday. The big change is the new touch-sensitive technology called 3-D Touch.

3-D Touch will allow users to interact with their iPhone in ways they have not been able to in the past. Users can click on email messages to get a quick view of the message by tapping and holding the screen with a light tap. If they like the message and want to see more about it, they will press deeper.

Users will be able to tap and hold the phone button on the home screen and three suggested contacts will be displayed. From there they can click one of those contacts and instantly call them.

By holding down the camera icon, users can quickly get access to the new Selfie cam and take a quick self-portrait. After that they can tap on the image to make sure it came out the way they wanted.

Inside the iPhone 6s is the brand new A9, which will be the most advanced chip ever in a smartphone, according to Apple. This chip will be 70 percent faster than the A8 for computing tasks and 90 percent faster than the A8 for graphics tasks. With these excellent graphics, games will look awesome on the iPhone 6s.

The camera is getting an update to a 12 megapixel (MP) camera. This means some extremely detailed pictures. Examples of these pictures were shown, and they amazed the crowd with accurate colors and focus on the details. A new feature called Live Photos will automatically take an extra 1.5 seconds worth of pictures before and after the actual photo so that when it is displayed it will look like it is moving.

4K video is also coming to the iPhone 6s. This will give even better quality videos for iPhone 6s users.

The chip inside the iPhone 6s will help deliver faster LTE and WiFi speeds, up to twice as fast as other smartphones.

Near the end of the presentation, Apple recapped the improvements made to the iPhone 6s:

  • 3D Touch
  • 7000 series aluminum
  • Strongest cover glass
  • 64-bit A9 chip with M9
  • 2nd-generation Touch ID
  • LTE Advanced and faster WiFi
  • 12 MP iSight camera
  • 4K video
  • 5 MP FaceTime HD with Retina Flash
  • Live Photos

The pricing for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will retain the same price that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus had when it was introduced, which is $199 and $299 with a two-year contract. Apple realizes that many customers are not signing two-year contracts anymore and also showed the pricing broken down in 24-month installments, which is $27 per month for the iPhone 6s and $31 per month for the iPhone 6s Plus.

Another new option to pay for the iPhone 6s is through the iPhone Upgrade Program for $32 per month. It will give customers an unlocked phone, their choice of carrier, a new iPhone every year and AppleCare+.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus can be preordered starting Saturday and will be released on Sept. 25.
