Taran Killam has officially been designated as "Saturday Night Live's" faux Donald Trump character moving forward this political season.

The late night comedy show is famous for designating certain cast members, former or current, as their leading portrayals for political candidates, especially during the presidential election season.

According to Deadline, there were several cast members and other people who auditioned to get the coveted spot for the mock portrayals of Trump during the show's 41st season on the air. But it was Killam who sold them the most on the comedy and character aspect that will no doubt be a guaranteed mainstay all year long on the Saturday night show.

In the past, Jimmy Fallon and Darrell Hammond have both done portrayals of Trump. But now that Killam has pulled out his most authentic comedic roots for the part, there is no doubt that he will be the show's superstar all season this year.

Tina Fey famously came back to "SNL" back in 2008 when former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was announced as the Vice Presidential running mate of Sen. John McCain in their failed bid to get the White House that year.

Fey had done so many portrayals of Palin that some have even said that is what led to the Governor's political downfall.

"SNL" has always had a main cast member repetitively portray presidential candidates throughout its long run on NBC. Their skits have also been a major factor, some might say, in determining the outcome of a race, although there have been no studies that support that theory.

Killam is a current cast member on the show and has been "SNL" since 2010.

"SNL" returns on Oct. 3 this year just in time for the primary debates to really start heating up, and one can only assume that Killam will be hitting the ground running, right out of the gate.
