Former Los Angeles Lakers player Rick Fox will make a guest appearance on the second season The CW series "iZombie."

The retired NBA athlete, who is no stranger to the entertainment business as he already appeared in hit TV shows like "Ugly Betty" and "One Tree Hill," will be seen in a role he will be comfortably portraying, People announced.

Fox will reportedly act as a former basketball star named Calvin Owens in the show, centering on Liv Moore's (Rose McIver) life, a medical resident who has been turned into a zombie by Blaine's (David Anders) scratch.

The 46-year-old player, who started with the Boston Celtics and played a total of 13 NBA seasons in his career since 1991 to 2004 for only two teams, per ESPN stats, is delighted in joining the show. The Toronto-born celebrity is "thrilled to be joining this great ensemble," People noted.

Fox's character is important in solving one of the cases of "iZombie" in the upcoming season because he is "one of the last people to see his friend" and "college buddy," Harry Cole, alive, the magazine noted, citing The CW Network.

Harry, a "degenerate gambler murdered in front of Clive on the King County Courthouse steps" is the death victim of Detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) and Liv's investigation. The crime-solving partners will meet Calvin at Harry's wake. Could Clive be a suspect, too, instead of just a mere witness? That will be an interesting twist, especially with the "Dancing with the Stars" contestant's very likeable and disarming smile. However, if he can pull it off, that will be more intriguing to see.

A grumpy and adorable Liv

Meanwhile, fans will just have to wait a few days more before "iZombie" returns on Oct.6. For the first episode titled "Grumpy Old Liv," a synopsis released by the network hinted a challenging role for Liv, Comic Book noted:

"Liv consumes the brains of a cantankerous old man to help gain insight into his death. After receiving an anonymous call on the tipster hotline, Liv and Detective Babineaux [sic] stop by the residence of Byron Thistlewaite (guest star Adam Rose), to question the mysterious caller. Meanwhile, Ravi (Rahul Kohli) suspects that Major (Robert Buckley) might be experiencing a side effect of the cure, and Liv pays Blaine a surprise visit. Michael Fields directed the episode written by Rob Thomas (#201)."
