A new feature on Twitter appeared Wednesday on the mobile app and the desktop version of the service.

The Moments feature will help users follow the latest news and trends going on throughout the day.

On the Twitter app for Android and iOS, users in the U.S. will see a lightning bolt that says "Moments." By clicking on this icon, users will see several tabs across the top of the screen. The default tab will be "Today" and it will display important news, popular articles, trending photos and much more, the Twitter blog announced.

Other tabs across the top of the Moments screen will be News, Sports, Entertainment and Fun. Scrolling down through each of these tabs will provide different articles and other items that users can interact with.

Twitter users will no longer have to follow specific accounts to read popular tweets and articles because the Moments feature will provide them with all of the trending news and tweets that Twitter thinks is important or widely discussed.

Twitter is already partnering with several media partners like BuzzFeed, Fox News, Getty Images and Mashable, with more coming, to load up the content for Twitter Moments.

Twitter Moments will include photos, videos, GIFs, short videos from Vine and even memes. Popular topics with large amounts of data will have a greater variety of items attached to it.

One of the popular topics on Wednesday was Russian President Vladimir Putin's 63rd birthday. Mashable provided the Moment which included articles, videos, photos and tweets.

After going through a Twitter Moment, users can share it with a tweet to their timeline so that their followers can see it.

Twitter Moments is currently only available to users in the U.S., but will be coming to more countries in the following months, Wired reports.
