Universal is planning on rebooting its entire monster universe and "The Mummy" is one of the first ones on the list. But there are going to be some noticeable changes to the story, which might delight fans.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Mummy" has been tapped as the first one to debut in the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. The UMCU appears to be taking a cue from all the success of the comic book industry titans Marvel and DC to take advantage of the dedicated fandom.

For a little perspective of how the next film reboot is expected to change, just consider the original film, starring Boris Karloff in the title role, and its 1999 reboot, which featured Arnold Vosloo as the Mummy. Both stories took place in the early 20th century and had very specific differences, but those were mostly due to production technology available to them.

The new reboot has had two different scripts made for it. One casts a man in the title role and the other casts a woman. It is unclear at this time which one they expect to move forward with, but the producers will narrow that done during the casting sessions to see which gender and actor specifically gets the part the way they want it.

Another noticeable difference to this reboot from the originals is going to be the era. The reboot will be taking place in modern times, whereas the 1999 reboot and the original film both took place in the early 20th century.

Considering the amount of success that Universal has had this year, this film is just the first of many that will in some way be interconnected through their legendary monster universe.

THR reports that the other potential films for the universe could include "Dracula," "Frankenstein," "The Invisible Man," "The Bride of Frankenstein," and even a "Dracula" spinoff for vampire hunter Van Helsing.

"The Mummy" will premiere on March 24, 2017.
