The PS4-maker is allegedly set to unveil its very own virtual reality headset at the Game Developers Conference this month.

"Join Sony Computer Entertainment for a presentation on innovation at PlayStation® and the future of gaming," reads the event description. According to the posted details, the Sony presentation will be led by President of Worldwide Studios at Sony Computer Entertainment, Shuhei Yoshida. Senior Director, Richard Marks and Senior Software Engineer, Anton Mikhailov will be alongside Yoshida in the event.

Happening on March 17 to 21, the 2014 GDC will take place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California and the event is reportedly where Sony will be revealing the long-rumored virtual reality headset, says Tech Radar.

Quoting an unnamed source, the Sony virtual reality mountable allegedly has "really really good" quality and resolution, reports Tech Radar. "People will definitely be impressed with what Sony's built," continues the source.

The virtual reality headset was reportedly slated for a Gamescom 2013 release, then rumored for a Tokyo Game Show release September of last year, notes GameSpot. But "those plans were scrapped at the last minute," says the report.

There is little that is known about the upcoming virtual reality headset by the PS4-maker. An earlier report by CVG cites a game dev who claims that Sony is working with Evolution Studios for the device to "simulate a cockpit view" on Drive Club.

Citing another developer, CVG reports that the virtual reality headset resembles the 3D headset that Sony first revealed in January 2011. It seems that the developer source is referring to Sony's HMZ-T1 Personal 3D Viewer which Sony previously dubbed as a "massive game changer."

"Packed with groundbreaking technology and fitting easily around your eyes and ears, the Personal 3D Viewer is set to revolutionise the way you experience games and movies forever," Sony describes the OLED-paneled device in their UK blogsite.

GameSpot notes than unlike Sony's other head-mounted displays though, the upcoming virtual reality headset is "believed to be tailored specifically for gaming purposes."
