Saturday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here. The grand prize is currently at $80 million, with a cash value of $49.8 million.

Last Wednesday’s winning numbers were 15, 20, 29, 31 and 40, and the Powerball was 1. There were regular 435,104 winners, and $3,069,783 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 293 million. The odds of simply doubling your money on a $2 ticket are one in 38.

As the the Daily Progress reports, a retired builder from Gordonsville, Virginia just won $100,000 playing Powerball.

Jesse Garnett purchased his winning ticket at a 7-Eleven located in the town of Orange. Because he spent an extra dollar for Power Play when he bought the ticket, the $50,000 that he initially won doubled into $100,000. Describing his joy at learning of his new wealth, Garnett said, "I said to my wife, 'I believe we won something!' We couldn't go to sleep."

As of now, Garnett said he has no immediate plans for his money outside of just paying off some bills.

Whatever becomes of his winnings, the Powerball player should count himself lucky that he did not win his prize in Illinois.

CNN reports that on Thursday the state said that, until they get their budget under control, they will not be able to pay out any lottery prizes over $600. Winners will have to settle for an IOU.

Illinois Lottery spokesman Steve Rossi said, "Once a budget is passed, all outstanding claims will be paid." In July, Illinois capped its payouts at $25,000.

In other Powerball news, the Scottsbluff Star Herald reports that someone in Nebraska is holding a Powerball ticket worth $100,000. Jill Marshall, the acting director of the Nebraska Lottery, said,  “We are encouraging our Powerball players to check their tickets carefully for winners."
