"The Bulgarian Brute" Rusev was once an unstoppable force in the WWE since his debut last January 2014. He has defeated former WWE World Champions in Jack Swagger, Mark Henry, The Big Show and Sheamus on his way to becoming the U.S. Champion, per his WWE profile.

However, his character has been on a downhill ever since he lost the U.S. title against John Cena at WrestleMania 31. Inquisitr noted that it was followed by losing Lana as his valet, his spot in the WWE's top villains and a loss of a lot of momentum.

Rusev could be in more trouble as according to F4WOnline via Wrestling News Post, the 29-year-old is facing some backlash from the WWE creative team due to his real-life engagement with Lana while they are in a middle of a storyline involving Dolph Ziggler and Summer Rae. The report adds that the Rusev character will have an "interesting" Monday Night Raw due to the backlash.

TMZ Sports first reported the engagement, which happened at the couple's home in Nashville. The Bulgarian popped the question on their swimming pool and filmed the whole proposal.

The engagement was right after Summer Rae asked Rusev to marry her on-screen, which resulted to WWE going into panic mode. The creative team tried to salvage the story, which has fallen flat since it started and acknowledged the couple's engagement, per Inquisitr.

This led to Lana giving an interview with WWE.com about their engagement. She said, "With me, Rusev was the undefeated Super Athlete. He listened to what I said, he was very focused. We made each other better. He challenged me and I challenged him. Summer has made him so soft that he hasn't won. You tell me, who is the better pick?"

The "Ravishing Russian" is currently on the sidelines nursing a broken wrist. She was injured while training in Fairfax, Virginia, as confirmed by WWE.com.

The WWE creative team were not the only ones unhappy with the timing of the couple's engagement. According to The Wrestling Observer, via 411 Mania, that WWE chairman Vince McMahon was also not pleased. The report noted that McMahon's unhappiness is not because of the engagement but due to the couple not maintaining their characters and storyline in public.

What Culture notes that WWE have already started punishing Rusev as he lost to Ryback clean inside three minutes in last Monday's episode of Raw. The timing of their engagement is not the best for Rusev as he has not recovered since losing his U.S. t
