Fifth Harmony's Ally Brooke Hernandez announced on Sunday that she will be partnering with the nonprofit organization March of Dimes to bring awareness to premature births.

The singer shared her personal story of survival as a newborn infant, while announcing her decision to join the March of Dimes cause on Instagram.

Hernandez explained that she herself was born three months early. Her family and doctors were surprised that she was able to survive, despite the fact that an infant's lungs aren't fully developed at six months.

At 22, the singer is now living out her dreams as a member of Fifth Harmony. She hopes that many more infants will be able to survive and follow their dreams as well through the nonprofit's work.

"I am so proud and honored to announce that I am partnering up with March of Dimes to be able to help thousands of babies and families around the world. Our mission is to be able to encourage and donate to those who went through exactly what my family went through," the singer wrote.

Other celebrities who have partnered with March of Dimes include pop star and "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson and Mexican superstar Thalía.

This isn't the first time that Hernandez has been open with her fans about her personal family struggles.

In early September, the singer revealed her mother's struggle with scoliosis and thanked her fans for showing their support as her mother went in for surgery, J-14 Magazine reported.

"From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has prayed, donated and wished her well. I will never be able to repay you for the kindness and generosity you've shown. I promise you I will pay this forward (more to come on that later). We are nervous of course, but have all of our faith in God. Thank you so much. God bless," she captioned images of her mother on Instagram.
