The new Samsung Galaxy S5 is a respectable upgrade from its Galaxy S4 predecessor, but when it comes to deciding on a phone, users are faced with more questions than initially imagined.

The most difficult thing for many people is the overabundance of phones on the market. How does one know whether or not the newest phone available is really that much better? In addition to all of this, how does one have time to decide whether the newest or oldest phone of one series (Samsung's Galaxy) is better or worse than the newer or older phone in another series (Apple's iPhone)?

At first glance, a comparison between the new Samsung Galaxy phone won't show too many signifncant differences aside from an obvious boost in screen size and a slight redesign of the phone. All in all, the two look rather similar. But the more specific differences are not clear from this perspective. What many people might not see is that the new phone features an improved plastic case that allows for better gripping of the phone. On the other hand, many have pointed out that there were no improvements in screen quality or sound quality and it could be argued that these were both downgraded with the new release.

When it comes to the iPhone 5s, people were happy to see that it was dropped in price, but this is also a sign of things to come for Apple. The iPhone 6 -- or whichever name they choose for the next iPhone -- will be most likely be on the shelves by the Fall, if not sooner, and then users will be faced with the same question as loyal Samsung users were asked: is the newer phone really that much better?

Maybe the biggest difference that will come with the next iPhone is the size. Although the iPhone remained constant in size over the years, it grew when the iPhone 5 came out and now people are expecting yet another increase in size. How this fares with consumers is yet to be seen, especially considering how bulky a bigger screen could be, but it seems to be the popular trend in the tech world.
