The Fox singing competition has placed big voices on a pedestal, sent some home and desperately clung to a few with the least fan votes. Here is a short list of names which had American Idol judges screaming "save!"

Matt Giraud (Season 8)

The Justin Timberlake-like dude was the recipient of the Judges' Save after he once again sat at the bottom three, reports MTV. Simon was clearly toying with Giraud when he asked him how many times he's been in the bottom three, and later on said "I don't see that you have really any chance of winning the competition."

Nevertheless, his raspy, country-like rendition of Bryan Adams' Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman might have somehow done the trick though MTV notes that Giraud had some trouble with a few of the high notes. "Matt, we've made a decision," Cowell said. "Matt, it's good news," he continued, prompting the contestant to burst into tears.

Michael Lynche (Season 9)

The 26-year old New Yorker seemed to not have been able to impress fans with his Eleanor Rigby performance. "Big Mike" received the least number of fan votes amidst praises from judges and the audience, notes CBS News. Cowell broke the news to the big guy, saying "We have decided we're going to see you next week."

Casey Abrams (Season 10)

Abrams joined Thia Megia and Stefano Langone in the bottom three. Suffering from ulcerative colitis, the contestant ironically sang I Don't Need No Doctor for his last chance when then judge Randy Jackson stopped him midway, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

"We were wondering when we heard the results, 'Why is Casey at the bottom?' We don't know. You deserve to be here," Jennifer Lopez told the contestant.

"Abrams quivered, cussed and, of course, sincerely thanked Tyler, Lopez and Jackson for his second chance," notes THR.

Jessica Sanchez (Season 11)

Making American Idol history, Jessica Sanchez was the first ever female to get a Judges' Save and one who did not have to perform for the "last chance" to get it. Billboard notes that although Sanchez was confirmed to have the lowest votes among the bottom three, the judges stormed the stage almost immediately in assurance.

"This girl is one of the best singers in America! Ever! Are you kidding me? Everybody, please vote for the best! Come on!" exclaimed Randy Jackson.

The panel did not use the Judges' Save the past season. Will a lucky crooner be receiving a second-life on the show this season?
