X-Men: Days of Future Past looks to host the largest roster of characters from Marvel's popular comic book series to date. The massive cast is stuffed to the brim with so many heroes and villains that fans likely wonder how the script could stand to hold one more. Yet, IGN reports that another character was set to appear in the film... although he ultimately didn't make the cut.

Cain Marko, known to most as the unstoppable Juggernaut, was originally slated to appear in the film. Josh Helman was previously hired for the role, before being recast as a young William Stryker.

"I originally got hired on a different role, which is no longer in the script -- it was going to be young Juggernaut," Helman said to IGN. "So I was like, 'Oh, s#!t. I've got to put on like 30 pounds!' So I was training for like four weeks, and then I got a phone call saying, 'Good news and bad news. Bad news first: Juggernaut's no longer in the script. Good news: They're having trouble with another role and they want to see you for it.'"

Reports indicate that Juggernaut's role in the story was given to a different character; the speedster Quicksilver. This would explain why Evan Peters was cast so late in the game, although it does question why Fox would make the decision to use the character after Joss Whedon already announced plans to do so in his Avengers sequel. Given the messy rights situation regarding Quicksilver and his sister, Scarlet Witch, Fox could have made this move in order to call dibs before Marvel Studios did.

Helman is cool with the change, saying "I feel very fortunate that it worked out this way, because Stryker is an amazing character." However many fans are likely to be disappointed at missing out on the chance to see a new interpretation of Juggernaut, particularly after seeing Vinnie Jones's version in X-Men: The Last Stand.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled for release this summer, July 18.
