Marvel Studios is known for its knack of secrecy and keeping things close to the chest. For a few months, the comic book film studio has kept fanboys in the dark regarding three of its upcoming release dates slated for May 6, 2016, July 8, 2016 and May 5, 2017.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, sources said the May 6 film, will be the third installment of the Captain America films.

This means the Star-Spangled Man and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agency will be facing off against the holy trinity of comic book heroes at the box office that weekend as the Man of Steel sequel is also scheduled for release that day.

Hollywood and the rest of the Internet were surprised when Warner Bros., not only pushed back their release date for follow up film, but chose the May 6 date as Marvel Studios and its parent company Disney had already claimed the date.

The tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman flick, which unites Henry Cavill returning to play the last son of Krypton, Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader and Gal Gadot as the Amazonian princess Wonder Woman, was initially set for a summer 2015 release.

Warner Bros. wanted to give director Zack Snyder more time to accomplish the ambitious film that would ideally launch its own DC cinematic universe similar to Marvel's success with The Avengers.

Forbes, is predicting that Captain America will not necessarily be the victor that weekend Marvel Studios will. Having two powerhouse films open the same weekend will certainly draw crowds from one to the other, ultimately having a blood bath at the box office ratings.

Both films could do mediocre because of the simultaneous releases, but Marvel will still win as long as Warner Bros.' franchise film doesn't receive the box office numbers its hoping for.

However, it's not too late for either studio to change the release date at this point but it would seem as though Marvel will more than likely win the game of box office chicken as Captain America 3 poses a serious threat to the future of Warner Bros.' Man of Steel and DC Comics franchises.

Warner Bros. has had a good history with June and July openings as all thee Dark Knight Trilogy films opened to great success as well as Man of Steel, which came out June 14, 2013. The July 22, 2016 date is still unoccupied.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. The film was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and will premiere worldwide April 4.
