Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has reportedly been let go by the organization.

"The Los Angeles Dodgers and Don Mattingly have mutually agreed that Mattingly will not return to manage the club in 2016," the team said in a statement Thursday morning.

According to CBS Sports, Mattingly left the organization on good terms. While higher-ups were fond of the manager, they felt it was time to take the team in a new direction.

Mattingly likewise felt he was treated well by president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, but agreed with the decision to move on.

The team said they came to the decision after several days of talks between Mattingly, Friedman, general manager Farhan Zaidi, and senior vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes.

"As our end of season process began, we discussed the past year, our future goals, necessary changes, roster needs and other matters relating to next year's campaign," Friedman said, via the LA Times. "As the dialogue progressed daily, it evolved to a point where we all agreed that it might be best for both sides to start fresh. We decided to think about it for a couple of days and when we spoke again, we felt comfortable that this was the direction to go."

Mattingly had a lot of success in his five years with the Dodgers, becoming the first manager to lead the team to three straight division titles, as well as making the playoffs three years in a row.

However, there have been concerns as well. Mattingly was praised by the higher-ups for handling the situation with Andre Ethier, but he failed to address issues with the batting rotation and bullpen.

Though the Dodgers were able to take the Mets -- who went on to stomp the Cubs in the NLCS -- to a close Game 5 in the first round, it wasn't enough to secure Mattingly's position.

"I'm honored and proud to have had the opportunity to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers," Mattingly said in a statement. "I've enjoyed my experiences and relationships with the organization's staff and players throughout my eight years in L.A."

The Miami Marlins are reportedly interested in hiring Mattingly as a manager. The San Diego Padres, Washington Nationals and Seattle Mariners have vacancies as well.
