Amazon has now joined the party and is creating original TV shows and films for the world of online streaming. Netflix might have competition.

Amazon, with its Amazon Instant Video feature, has positioned itself, much like iTunes, to be more inclusive than their principal competitors like Netflix and HULU. As of last falll, Amazon Studios released two new TV shows, Alpha House and Betas. Both have received great success and a growing fan base.

Tastic Film Magazine reports that Amazon Studios has picked up five new titles, including Jill Soloway's dark Los Angeles set comedy Transparent, The Rebels, and Mozart in the Jungle. X Files and Chris Carter fans should be more excited for Carter's new series called The After.

Landing Carter is a major win for Amazon Studios, and it is still to be determined if they have picked 10 new series in the kids genre. Besides Carter's new series, Amazon Studios also boasts of Michael Connelly's new book-turned-TV series Bosch.

The excitement for Amazon's original streaming content has reached fever pitch, but it might also be short-lived.

Amazon Studios stated that every Friday viewers can catch Alpha House and Betas, but the shows can also be streamed from anywhere at any time from either Thursday or Saturday. These are the bugs that Amazon Studios have to work out in an ever growing streaming village.

According to a study released by TheMotleyFool.com, online movie streaming is still in its growing stages. At least 46 percent of people living in the U.S. used a subscription video account over the past month. Seventy-one percent of those users were between the ages of 18-34. They are on the cusp of the 18-49 demographics that TV and film studios crave. These users who are at home prove good business for Netflix, which is in 25 percent of households. According to the report, 76 percent of consumers would rather pay for content than be interrupted by commercials while watching free content. This affects HULU, although HULU Plus is an option; most people go to HULU for its free content.

This data, on the other hand, is in favor of Amazon Prime Instant Video, and Netflix. Netflix has a significant edge over Amazon because Amazon joined  the streaming game late, but Amazon has generated over $5.48 billion in revenue overr the pat 12 months. Over the past year, Netflix has operating cash flow at $97.86 million.

But Netflix has dedicated $3 billion in TV and film content in 2014; and $6 billion over the next three years.

The Houston Press reported that Netflix boasts of 10,000 titles, but a little over a third of it is streaming titles are for TV shows. Even Bill Maher has joked that Netflix is like a bad used car salesman on his show, Real Time With Bill Maher.

Netflix might arguably be the leader of the pack for streaming TV shows and films, butperhaps not everyone agrees that what they offer is great or that Netflix should be the only one. Amazon is challenging them.
